Dear Betty Jane Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a happy new year! As we approach the second semester, we are remaining optimistic that the Covid-19 vaccine will be readily available and allow us to return to face to face learning in our building. As we consider reopening classes, there is a lot of preparation that must take place on my end. I know the district shared surveys with families several months back, but with the rising Covid-19 cases, some of you may have changed your opinion regarding the reopening of schools. Therefore, we will be reaching out to families again to find out your intent, should we obtain permission to reopen our building. Your input will help me plan for seating, schedules for daily operations within the building, and also staffing within classrooms. Please look for surveys in the upcoming weeks and take the time to complete them. Your participation is always greatly appreciated.

I would also like to take this time to provide a shout out to all of our amazing virtual learners! Our children have been amazing during this time of uncertainty, and their resilience in bouncing back from the confusion during school closures has impressed us all. Our boys and girls have strived to make things normal,  even in this virtual world. If you have not done so already, please check out our “for students” tab on our website and view boys and girls in our winter performance. We have also shared some awesome students reading their poetry compositions as well.

As we proceed through the second half of the school year and “round the stretch toward home plate”, please note that the district did update the official school calendar to accommodate the late start back in September.  Here is the link to the  updated Akron Public Schools 2020-2021 School Calendar for your reference. This link will provide you with the days classes are in session. If you would like to see a more detailed calendar such as testing dates, I urge you to explore www.akronschools.com and apply the calendar filters as desired . Hopefully these items may be of use to you as you make plans for doctor appointments or vacations.  As always, our staff is here to assist with any questions or concerns you may have. Teachers have been holding office hours from 2:00-3:00pm daily, and you can alway contact your child’s teacher through email or a phone call to the school. Remember, we are here to help with any questions and concerns you may have. If you have not done so already, please update our phone number in your contacts. They changed our phone number at the start of the school year, and the old number will not be working much longer.  You can reach us at (330) 761-2602.  As always, thank you for your continued support as educational partners for our children. I am always impressed when I enter classrooms and see the parents engaged and assisting our young scholars. Your support and our awesome students are the reason Betty Jane is the best place to be!  Please stay safe and stay well.

Respectly,

CURT- Can you please proofread for me and make any needed revisions?

Hello Betty Jane Families! It looks like we are heading into the winter season with vigor! This is just a reminder for families to use the loop if the traffic is to the end of the curb which runs along the front of the school, or if there are folks who are already waiting in line from the other direction to drop their child off. I just want to ensure that there are no traffic backups into Darrow Road which may prohibit any of our Betty Jane Family Members from entering into our lot safely. This is especially a concern as road conditions become icy and stopping distances are affected. The safety and well being of our entire Batty Jane family is our top concern.

Also, just a reminder regarding dress down days. Every Friday is school spirit-wear day. This means that students may wear Betty Jane/ Ellet apparel but they must also must wear uniform bottoms.  Spirit day Fridays are not a full dress down day because students must still wear uniform bottoms. I thank you all for working with us on a daily basis to provide our children with the very best educational opportunities. Your continual reinforcement at home on the skills students obtain at school are necessary to continue showing increased academic success.
