Important Principal's Message: Returning to in-person learning

Dear Betty Jane Families,           March 2, 2021

We are looking forward to seeing everyone as we resume face to face instruction for the remainder of the  academic year!  During this time we wish to assure parents that we are following all safety precautions as outlined by the CDC. We also request that you assist us in ensuring that your child arrives on time each day with his or her face mask. For videos of what the school day will look like, please visit APS REOPENING RESOURCES on our connected learning website. Also, we are receiving calls regarding uniforms. Students are required to follow APS dress code policies, but uniforms are not required for the 2020-2021 school year. 

Our first day of instruction for students is as follows:

March 8, 2021- Students in grades KG,1st and 2nd. 

Monday, March 15th- Students in grades 3rd, 4th and 5th. 

Our regular school time schedule will go into effect at this time for students returning to the building for face to face instruction. The school day for these students will run from 8:30-2:30. Remote instruction students will operate on a slightly different schedule of 9:00-2:00.

PLEASE NOTE: Prior to drop-off each morning, please ensure that you child does not have any symptoms of illness such as a fever, cough, sore throat, or chills. 

Drop-off and Pick-up

Our car drop-off and pick-up line follows the same route in the morning and afternoon.  Please refer to this diagram for the route you would drive for arrival and dismissal on school grounds.

When dropping your child off in front, please remember to pull your car all the way up in front of the building to the end of the front awning so that several students can exit their cars at once and still be under the covering, especially on rainy days. When cars stop right in front of the main door, traffic gets backed up in the drop-off line and only one child can get out of their vehicle at a time. Also, please note that our parking lot is two lanes, so please use caution as you merge to turn right or left out of our parking lot exit. 

Daily Schedule

8:00- Drop-off only for students eating breakfast

8:15-8:30- Student drop-off for those not wishing to eat breakfast

8:25- Warning bell 

8:30- Tardy Bell

2:30- Student Dismissal

Student Arrival: Drop-off for students attending face to face instruction at the building will begin at 8:00. Please do not drop children off prior to 8:00 because there is no supervision available. Dropping your child off prior to 8:00 is a safety risk.

The 8:00 drop off time is only for students who wish to have breakfast with us. If your child is not having breakfast at the school, please drop them off between 8:15 and 8:25 This varied drop off time helps us keep the flow of traffic going and also keeps areas of our building less congested for social distancing purposes. Students are only considered tardy if they arrive to class after the 8:30 tardy bell. 

Pick-up at the end of the school day begins at 2:30. We will still be using our number system to facilitate a smooth and safe departure for our students. Please keep your card number displayed in your window as you enter the pick-up line. Please make sure to help us by picking your child up in a timely manner. Dismissal begins at 2:30, and sometimes this line moves much more quickly than anticipated. When this happens, you do not wish to have your child standing outside to wait for you. Due to social distancing guidelines, there will be no ability for us to bring groups of students back into the office to call or wait. 

Students who are walking will also be dismissed at 2:30 through the back playground doors. If you are meeting your child on the back playground by the exit doors, please do not allow children on the playground equipment to play during this time. We wish to maintain social distancing and also encourage all students to proceed directly home at the end of the school day.

If you have any questions about the school procedures or wish to contact us, please call the school or reach out to your child’s teacher via email, Dojo, or Classtag. We are trying to minimize the amount of visitors in the building at one time. If you have an issue that can be resolved via a phone contact, please call the school. If for any reason you must enter the building, please make sure to wear a mask. All Visitors to Betty Jane CLC MUST Wear a Mask. 

The entire staff of Betty Jane CLC wishes to let you know that we have been looking forward to having your child back. We will be taking every precaution to ensure the safety and well-being of every child entrusted to our care. Please continue your support in every way possible to help us maintain this face to face instruction. Please listen to your child for any physical symptoms of possible illness that he/she may have, and continue being understanding with safety protocols that we must follow.  We can't wait to continue our partnership in supporting your child’s education.
