Six first grade students joined Mrs. Widmar once a week for enrichment where they examined vocabulary, context clues, personal narratives, poetry and fairytales. In May they read Cinderella, and learned that fairy tales usually begin with "Once Upon A Time...," take place a long time ago, have good and evil characters, usually have happy endings and often teach a lesson. Then, as a culminating activity, students completed a STEM activity. They designed a cleaning tool to help Cinderella. The constraints included using only a cardboard tube, string, tape, 4 cotton balls, 4 styrofoam packaging pieces, 2 straws, and 3 pipe cleaners.
