Dear Betty Jane Families, November 2022
I would like to take a moment to thank each and every family for helping support our scholars with a smooth transition into the new school year. As we head into November, much of the newness is gone and students are settled into routines. I wanted to keep you informed of our school-wide expectations at Betty Jane as part of our PBIS Programming.
As a PBIS school, we created a framework to support and reward children that we catch doing positive things and demonstrating leadership within the building. Hopefully your child has had the chance to earn Hoot Loot (our Betty Jane CLC currency) to spend on prizes in the office. We are also working on some attendance programs, and we will continue this throughout the school year with prize incentives as well. We know that providing explicit instruction on behavioral expectations has a powerful impact on the total school environment. One of the things you may hear about is our Stay in the Game Program that focuses on promoting positive attendance. The Be Kind 330 Campaign is a program throughout each of the Akron Public Schools. This program focuses on students being kind to each other and working together to create a welcoming and nurturing school environment. We also have several leadership opportunities in the school. These roles include Student Council representatives, Student Ambassadors and Student Jobs in individual classrooms.
Below is a copy of our school-wide PBIS Matrix that is connected to a monthly behavioral focus area as outlined in the College and Career Academy behaviors for an elementary scholar. If you ever have any questions about our goals or any of the good work being done at our building with student leaders, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Once again, I thank you for a wonderful start to the school year and look forward to some fun and memorable times in the upcoming months!
Sincerely,
Ms. Lucas

CURT- Can you please proofread for me and make any needed revisions?
Hello Betty Jane Families! It looks like we are heading into the winter season with vigor! This is just a reminder for families to use the loop if the traffic is to the end of the curb which runs along the front of the school, or if there are folks who are already waiting in line from the other direction to drop their child off. I just want to ensure that there are no traffic backups into Darrow Road which may prohibit any of our Betty Jane Family Members from entering into our lot safely. This is especially a concern as road conditions become icy and stopping distances are affected. The safety and well being of our entire Batty Jane family is our top concern.
Also, just a reminder regarding dress down days. Every Friday is school spirit-wear day. This means that students may wear Betty Jane/ Ellet apparel but they must also must wear uniform bottoms. Spirit day Fridays are not a full dress down day because students must still wear uniform bottoms. I thank you all for working with us on a daily basis to provide our children with the very best educational opportunities. Your continual reinforcement at home on the skills students obtain at school are necessary to continue showing increased academic success.
